International House London is a member of the internationally-recognised professional associations EAQUALS and English UK. We are also accredited by the British Council, an organisation that builds mutually beneficial relationships between people in the UK and other countries.
Accreditation UK is a quality-assurance scheme that monitors UK schools, colleges and universities offering courses in English as a Foreign Language (EFL). The scheme checks and improves the standards of providers' teaching, management, facilities and welfare provision. It is administered by English UK and the British Council and seeks to:
- Develop and maintain the standard of English language provision for international students delivered by UK institutions
- Accredit English language providers in the UK that meet the scheme’s criteria
- Provide assurance about the quality of English language provision accredited under the scheme to international students and their advisors.
Aqueduto (The Association for QUality EDUcation and Training Online) is a charitable organisation dedicated to:
- evaluating blended and online training courses against a quality assurance framework
- representing providers of such courses in a crowded marketplace, varying in quality
- helping professionals identify such courses, and enrol with confidence
The British Council supports educators in the UK and worldwide to work together to enrich the quality of education in schools and equip young people to live and work successfully in a global society.
Our English language programmes are regularly inspected by the British Council through Accreditation UK (see above) to ensure that we continue to meet the high standards required for accreditation. In our most recent report (2013), Accreditation UK stated that:
"Strengths were noted in staff management, student administration, quality assurance, premises and facilities, learning resources, academic management, care of students and leisure opportunities."
Cambridge English Authorised Centre
IH London is an authorised exam centre for the suite of Cambridge English Exams that include FCE, CAE and CPE.
Cambridge English exams are accepted by over 13,500 universities, employers and governments around the world. Our exams can open doors to higher education, improve employment opportunities, and because they are globally recognised, can increase learners’ choices for study or work.
International House London is a founder member of EAQUALS which started in 1991. We've been inspected four times by Eaquals inspectors since 2003 and received Eaquals accreditation on each occasion.
The school was last inspected by EAQUALS in June 2014 and met the high standards required for EAQUALS accreditation.
Inspectors highlighted 12 points of excellence including Teaching and Learning, Course Design and Supporting Systems, and Learning Environment.
English UK is the national association of accredited English Language centres, and the world's leading language teaching association. They are a UK-registered charity with the key aim of advancing the education of international students in the English language.
English UK work with the British Council to manage Accreditation UK, the scheme which monitors and improves the standards of English language providers in the UK on behalf of students all over the world.
IELTS Authorised Test Centre
International House London are an authorised exam centre for the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) test.
IELTS is accepted as evidence of English language proficiency by over 9,000 organisations worldwide. Around 2 million tests were taken globally each year and IELTS is recognised as a secure, valid and reliable indicator of true-to-life ability to communicate in English for education, immigration and professional accreditation.
IELTS is jointly owned by British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge English Language Assessment through more than 900 test centres and locations in over 130 countries.
Investors In People
International House London has achieved the Investors in People Bronze Standard. Investors in People is the national Standard which sets out a level of good practice for training and development of people to achieve business goals.
The Standard provides a national framework for improving business performance and competitiveness, through a planned approach to setting and communicating business objectives and developing people to meet these objectives. The result is: what people can and are motivated to do matches what the organisation needs them to do.
The ISI is a UK Government approved Educational Oversight body that inspects independent, further education and private English language schools in the UK. Inspections seek to monitor and improve the quality and effectiveness of education provided to students, and are a requirement for schools that provide tuition to international students in the UK through the Tier 4 visa system.
Inspections are carried out every four years with monitoring visits every other year. Inspectors observe lessons, conduct formal interviews with students and examine samples of their work. They attend registration sessions, interview senior members of staff and carry out pre-inspection surveys for staff and students.
International House London’s last full inspection was in December 2016 when it was judged that we had exceeded expectations in all 3 areas:
- The quality of the curriculum, teaching and learners' achievements
- Students' welfare, including health and safety
- The effectiveness of governance and management
TOEIC Authorised Test Centre
The TOEIC test (TEST OF ENGLISH FOR INTERNATIONAL COMMUNICATION™) measures proficiency in international Business English at intermediate and advanced levels. The TOEIC test is used as a certification tool in over 5000 international companies across 60 countries. More than 4.5 million individuals worldwide take the test every year, making it a globally recognised standard of English language assessment.
