Blended Cert ICT: Certificate in Teaching Languages with Technology

The Blended Cert ICT: Certificate in Teaching Languages with Technology is a brand new blended learning qualification for language teachers.

This international e learning qualification will enhance your skills and expertise using ICT in the classroom. It's ideal for teachers who want practical tools, techniques and ideas for using information and communications technology with their students.

It is delivered using a mixture of online training tutorials and face-to-face teaching.

The course is provided by IH London and the Consultants-E, and is validated by Trinity College London. It is suitable for teachers and trainers worldwide, whatever their level of experience with ICT (information and communication technology).

Course Overview

The Blended Cert ICT course examines a range of technology tools for the language classroom.
You will develop computer literacy skills, learn how to use technology in the classroom, and explore (free) online tools.
The course will also show you how to integrate ICT into a teaching syllabus and assessment, and make you more familiar with commercially available ICT materials.

Timetable and Entry Requirements

The Blended Cert ICT is made up of 120 hours of teaching time: 50 hours are delivered face-to-face at IH London over eight weeks (10 evenings and four Saturdays). 70 hours are delivered over 11 weeks through our online learning environment in Moodle.
Course participants must hold a pre-service qualification such as the PGCE, Trinity CertTESOL, Cambridge CELTA, or a national teaching certificate equivalent.
Maximum course size is 15 participants.

Internet Skills and Technical Requirements

The online component of the course takes place in the VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) Moodle. You won’t need any prior experience or knowledge of online learning, although basic experience of email and Internet is expected. Technical and pedagogical support is available for the entire duration of the course for both the online and f2f components.

You will need:

A laptop computer to bring to the f2f component
A headset (best is with a USB connection)
An Internet connection at home/work (preferably broadband) for the online component
A webcam is optional for the online component

You will use an online video conferencing platform for chats with course colleague and tutor(s) several times during the course - the exact time for this is negotiated with the group. To take part in a video conferencing session you will need a headset with microphone (headsets with a USB plug are the best option). If you have a webcam, you may want to connect that during the video conferencing session, but this is optional and you will be able to see and hear your tutor even if you only have a headset. Video conferencing sessions are always recorded which means that even if you can’t attend, you will be able to watch the recording later online, in your own time. Our video conferencing platform is accessed via a web page so you do not need to download or install anything to use it during the course.
