Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL)

New for 2012, this course will help you explore some of the methodology underlying CLIL and apply it to your own teaching context. Tutors will work with you to produce a wide range of materials and activities which can be used as part of a CLIL curriculum.

What is CLIL?

CLIL or Content and Language Integrated Learning integrates subject and language learning to help students at primary, secondary and tertiary level to learn English and gain knowledge of curricular subjects, by learning those subjects in English.

This total immersion style of teaching is being widely introduced at all levels of education at schools and colleges worldwide.

The benefits of CLIL

For students, CLIL gives more contact with the target language helping to develop their competence and giving them more opportunities to practise their oral communication skills. CLIL also helps to develop students' knowledge of the subject area and to look at subjects from different perspectives.
