Our Chinese General Programme: Beginners is an 11 week evening course for people learning Chinese for the first time. Classes are once a week on Wednesday evenings from 6.30pm-8.30pm.
You will study in a small group and your teacher will use lots of interactive devices to help you understand basic words and phrases.
Our modern, spacious school is just a few minutes from Covent Garden - a great, central location if you want to learn Chinese in London.

Beginner Chinese Course overview
- Mandarin Chinese courses at International House are dynamic and interactive. Your teacher will speak in Chinese and use teaching aids to help you understand.
- We will assess your ability at lesson one and continually monitor your progress.
- General courses are 11 weeks long and there are four terms each year. Booking more than one term is cheaper, but courses must be taken back to back.
- The average class size is 6-8 students (max 14), and the minimum age is 16.

Take our online test to discover your language level and ability. We will also assess you in lesson one to make sure you are studying at the right level with students of a similar ability.
How we teach
Learning a language at International House London focuses on speaking and doing rather than book learning. From lesson one your teacher will speak to you in the target language. Pictures, role play, props and film will help you understand quickly, making the learning experience dynamic and enjoyable. All our teachers are native speakers so you'll have the added benefit of an authentic insight into the culture and countries behind the language.
