IELTS Test in Iran - Update 11 May 2012

'Following a continuation of efforts by IH London and our Iranian partners we are hopeful of resuming testing in Iran by the end of June. We are optimistic that this will be a long term and sustainable model, allowing us to offer IELTS tests in Iran for many years to come. We are targeting 30 June as our first potential test date, however, this is still subject to final approval.

We would like to express our gratitude both to NOET and our Iranian partners, IELTS Iran, who have worked extremely hard to make progress in the ongoing discussions. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the Iranian candidates for their patience.'

We are unable to deal with individual phone calls and emails but will update the IH London website as soon as we have further news to report.

About IELTS

  • The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is owned by Cambridge ESOL, the British Council and IDP Australia. IELTS is designed to assess the language ability of candidates who want to work or study in countries where English is the primary language of communication.
  • IELTS is available in two modules, Academic or General Training. You must decide prior to applying which module is best for you as we cannot advise you on which module you should take. Please note that the General Training Module is not offered on all IELTS test dates.
  • The Academic module is for people who want to study an undergraduate or postgraduate degree course or who wish to register with a professional body.
  • The General Training module focuses on basic survival skills in a broader social and educational setting. General Training is suitable if you are joining a training programme or doing work experience in English speaking countries, but is not designed for degree level. This module is also suitable for those wishing to emigrate to Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the UK.

About the IELTS test

  • IELTS International House London is a pen and paper test. Computer based IELTS tests are not currently available in the UK. Candidates are tested in four skill areas - listening, reading, writing and speaking English.

The listening, reading and writing tests usually finish around 1pm, with the speaking tests being held between 2.20-7.10pm. You will be given your time slot for the speaking test during registration on the day of the test.
  • If your IELTS test date is a Thursday, you will take the listening, reading and writing components on the Thursday, but the speaking test will on the Saturday before or after. To see which date the speaking test will be held for a particular test, please check the IELTS Test Dates page.
