IELTS Away Days

The IH London IELTS Centre can arrange for IELTS tests to take place on private premises, exclusively for your own employees or students. To stage an IELTS Away Day you must have at least 40 students wishing to take the test and adequate facilities to meet the examinees’ needs. If it is the first time that you have hosted an IELTS test, you will receive a pre-test inspection to establish that:

  • There is a suitable area for the administrator(s) to sit and register the candidates/check their identification on the morning of the test.
  • The testing room for the listening, reading and writing parts of the test is suitable: with an adequate sound system; sufficient space for the number of candidates and appropriate furniture etc.
  • There are enough suitable interview rooms for the speaking tests.
  • There is a suitable area for candidates to sit whilst they are waiting for the speaking test.

IELTS Away Day questions

What is the minimum and maximum number of candidates needed to stage an IELTS Away Day?
IH London will conduct an IELTS Away Day for a minimum of 40 candidates. There is no upper limit on examinees provided that the facilities are adequate and sufficient notice is given to book the necessary examiners.

Is it possible to book an IELTS Away Day on any day?
This used to be the case, but since September 2003 IELTS Test Centres around the world have been restricted to testing on set dates. Basically there are three Saturday tests and one Thursday test each month. Your Away Day would have to be conducted on one of these days.

Is the IELTS test fee any higher for an Away Day?
No. The fee remains the same as when students come to the IH London IELTS Test Centre. Test fees are set centrally by the British Council and the Cambridge ESOL.

Are there any additional costs?
Yes. You would be expected to pay travel costs for administrators, invigilators and examiners. Clients would also be expected to provide refreshments or at least a place where the IELTS examining staff can buy hot or cold drinks.

When is payment expected?
Test fees would need to be paid in advance of the test on your premises. IELTS staff travel costs would normally be reimbursed on the day of the test by cash or cheque.

When are results ready?
IELTS test results would be sent to you within ten working days of the test date.
