We are the home of the CELTA. IH London is well known globally in the English language industry for our Teacher Training courses and we have always valued the very best teaching. Our founders, John and Brita Haycraft, pioneered the first English Teacher Training qualification, now known as the CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).
The course is a structured and practical introduction to teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL or TESOL) and the certificate is awarded by Cambridge English which forms part of the University of Cambridge. Worldwide the CELTA is still the industry standard for teachers.
We offer both full-time and part-time courses, either face-to-face or online. However you take the course, all trainees benefit from IH London’s unique CELTA support, including CV and careers advice, free access to our new online teacher development platform (Teacher Portal), a free foreign language course and much much more all included in with your course!

Your guide to CELTAWe have courses available full-time and part-time, online and face-to-face, as well as morning or afternoon. Our courses are designed to work to your needs, for different obligations and time zones.
Being part of a global network of over 160 schools worldwide means that we are connected to a huge range of opportunities. Qualifying with IH London allows graduates to join this network, and benefit from the International House English language teaching community. As part of the CELTA course, trainees also benefit from careers advice sessions and CV guidance tailored to your needs.
From 2023, IH London CELTA graduates will also receive 3 months of free access to our online professional development platform, Teacher Portal, where you can access development courses, classroom resources, live events and a community of teachers across the globe.
The students who take part in the English lessons taught by CELTA trainees are from a variety of backgrounds. We invite low income, refugees and asylum seekers as students to join us for these classes both online and face-to-face, allowing us to give back to communities across the globe. IH London is a registered charity, meaning that all of our profits go back into providing opportunities for others.
Our trainers come with both theoretical and practical expertise from having run more courses annually every year than any other CELTA center. Our trainers are experts in the field, many are published authors and/or international conference speakers.
