1. Your favourite book, film or album from 2019
Ok, you have to be careful with this one – as it’s not all about you, and you have to think the other person will like it – but sharing something you love and introducing it to someone that might enjoy it too, could be an excellent chance to strengthen your friendship or family bonds.
2. A gift from the past
Think of a great time you have shared together, where you were, what made it special and buy a gift that connects them to that moment. It might just be a small tourist souvenir or a bottle of wine from the region, but the gift will bring back the whole memory.
3. A subscription to relax
So many to choose from – a magazine they might like (lots of online versions are subscription only too), Spotify, Netflix and more – most are offering fixed subscriptions specifically for gifts at this time of year.
4. Help them save the world
Adopt an animal, pay for a child to have access to water, protect part of the rainforest – there is a huge range of important issues to help with. Choose something close to their heart and make a difference.
5. A trip to London
London has so much to offer and explore, from its history to its cutting-edge contemporary culture, with interesting places on every street. As the writer Samuel Johnson said “When you are tired of London, you are tired of life”. Every time is a trip to remember. IH London is in Covent Garden, central London, and we love our location. Pop in and say hello if you are in the area!
6. Spa and pamper treatments
Ok, we aren’t the first to think of this, but it belongs on the list – so easy to do and will always be appreciated. A spa and pamper treatment is the best present during the holidays. You’re offering the gift of feeling relaxed and good about themselves, and it was all thanks to you!
7. Gig, comedy or theatre tickets
So much life, laughter and dancing to do, so little time! What better gift than a few hours out to enjoy a performance – either from one of their firm favourites or take a chance on something new. It’s always a fun night out.
8. An experience to remember
Afternoon Tea, feeding the penguins at London Zoo, ‘zorbing’ (think giant padded hamster ball), you name it they can experience it. Making memories is one of the greatest gifts there is.
9. Make a photo album (the ones you can hold in your hands)
We have so many photos and most never leave our phones. They are sat in your pocket or handbag ready to be printed and made into a truly personal, thoughtful gift. You can print photos from your phone at most big supermarkets, or order online, for a gift they’ll keep forever.
10. Give the gift of language
Learning a new language is one of the top New Year’s resolutions. It expands the mind and the person’s world – now that’s a great gift! We teach evening and weekend courses in Arabic, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. We of course also teach a range of English language courses for all ages.
