We hope you are enjoying your new online English classes at IH London!

As learning online is new for all of us, we would like to share with you some of our top tips to help you study at home. And when it is time to take a break – we have some suggestions for fun ways to see London without leaving the house.

Read all about it

Want to read English newspapers but think they are too difficult? Think again! One Stop English has lots of articles from British newspaper The Guardian, written especially for English language students. If you are a beginner or in an advanced class, there is an article written for you. These stories also include exercises to help you improve your vocabulary and learn new phrases. Visit the website each week to read a new story.

Sofa sightseeing

Okay, so you cannot go outside and visit the sights of London at the moment, but there is plenty for you to see online from the comfort of your sofa! Visit London’s 360 website  which lets you look at London’s famous landmarks such as Big Ben for free. The best part of all? There aren’t any queues!

Once you have seen the sights, why not watch videos to learn more about the history? Download the LearnEnglish GREAT app for easy to understand clips. It’s like having a personal tour guide on your phone!

Time for a singalong

For music fans there is a website to help test your listening skills while you enjoy some of your favourite songs – Lyrics Training. Choose from Coldplay, Ed Sheeran or even new songs from Dua Lipa! The website lets you listen to a song and then tests you on the lyrics (the words in songs). Now that we are all spending more time at home, you can start your own private karaoke club while also learning new vocabulary. Get your microphone ready!

Shakespeare with a difference

Where for art thou Romeo? Well, on YouTube actually! While visiting The Globe Theatre during your stay in London may not be possible, seeing a Shakespeare play still is. Here you can watch some of Shakespeare’s classic plays like Romeo and Juliet set in modern Britain. Each video is only 5 minutes long and includes subtitles.
