An academic English course to prepare you to study in English at college or university. New for 2021, B1 (intermediate) level introduced.

 

Who is this course for?

Students who want to learn, prepare, and feel confident, with the language and culture at English-speaking higher education environments, including university and colleges in the UK.

 

What will I learn?

The course is designed to inspire and prepare you for higher education in English. There is a clear focus on academic writing and the teachers will cover a wide range of topics to help you research, take notes and develop your academic English.

You will also explore university culture and expectations in the UK and develop your critical
thinking skills.

The course content will change depending on the needs of the group, but you can expect to:

  • Discuss and debate a wide range of topics to improve your fluency and accuracy
  • Listen to talks and lectures and explore strategies for note-taking
  • Read a wide range of academic texts such as articles, essays and reports
  • Expand and explore your knowledge of academic vocabulary
  • Be given tailored feedback on your academic written English.

The classes are streamed so you will either be in the B1 (intermediate) classes or the B2 (upper intermediate) classes.

 

What will I achieve?

  • Understand the academic demands and expectations of university and colleges in the UK
  • A range of key vocabulary and language for an academic context
  • Be able to write extended essays and assignments based on research and reading
  • Be able to think critically and express your opinions in both written and spoken English
  • A certificate with your new English level
