Prepare for the C1 Advanced level Cambridge exam and demonstrate your mastery of the English language 

 

This course is for students who are at C1 level and want a qualification to prepare them for employment in an English-speaking environment or to study at an English-speaking university. Cambridge qualifications don’t expire, so you will keep it forever. 

Studying with a Cambridge exam centre, you’ll receive practical instruction using authentic test materials to help prepare for your exam. Online, evening and weekend courses also available 

 

Booking your Cambridge exam 

We are an accredited exam centre, so we will book your exam for you, and you can sit it at the school. Many of our teachers have extensive assessment experience so they know how to teach for the best results.  

You can book your Cambridge English Qualifications online or use our in-school service to book your test. The Cambridge test fee is not included in the preparation course fees.  

 

Hours per week  

Lessons: 20 per week 
Lesson time: 20 lessons = 18 hours 20 minutes per week. 

20 hrs (12:15-13.10 & 13:15-16:15)

Bank holidays 

There will be no lessons taking place on UK Bank Holidays when the school will be closed. Fees are not pro rata for weeks where bank holidays take place. 

 

The Cambridge C1 Advanced focuses on language development to improve your English level, before you take the exam. 

During the course you will:

  • Be given the exam techniques and test-taking strategies that you need to pass the exam
  • Have a full practice exam during the course and receive feedback and advice from your teacher
  • Discuss and debate a wide range of topics to improve your fluency and accuracy
  • Write about various topics with appropriate style and language
  • Follow complex listening that involves multiple speakers
  • Develop your key skills by reading a variety of challenging texts
  • Extend your range of language to help in each part of the exam

This course is for students who want to improve their English language level across all four skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) in advance of taking the Cambridge C1 Advanced test, and learn techniques for the test in order to achieve their best result.

Spoken Production  

  • Give a clear, prepared presentation, giving reasons in support of or against a particular point of view and giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options 
  • Express yourself confidently and fluently 
  • Use complex grammar to compare and contrast ideas  
  • Vary intonation and place sentence stress correctly in order to express difference in meaning 
  •  Identify and use formality appropriate to the circumstances   

 

Listening 

  • follow complex interactions between multiple speakers in group discussion or debate 
  • Identify key information to help predict answers to exam style questions 
  • Identify the speaker’s mood, tone etc. 
  • Use a range of techniques follow a long text and identify key information  
  • recognise a wide range of idiomatic expressions and colloquialisms, appreciating register shifts   

 

Reading 

  • Scan quickly through long and complex texts, locating relevant details 
  • Read for detailed information in texts to answer exam style questions  
  • Make predictions about text content from headings, titles or headlines.  
  • Predict the meaning of unknown vocabulary 
  • Read critically, questioning conclusions and evidence presented   

 

Writing 

  • Write clear well-structured texts with detailed supporting evidence  
  • Write several different types of writing, e.g. essays, reports, reviews, letters and emails 
  • Use a complex language to link ideas in academic writing  
  • Use a range of cohesive devices in writing to engage the reader 
  • Identify task questions and write appropriate responses using a relevant examples 

Life Skills   

  • Set learning goals and plan your personal progress  
  • Use critical thinking skills 
  • Apply study skills and strategies outside the classroom and after your course ends
