What is it?

The Italian CILS Certification is a qualification issued by the Università per Stranieri di Siena which demonstrates candidates’ level of linguistic and communicative competencies in Italian as a foreign language. International House Trust Assessment is an authorised exam centre.

How many levels of exams are there?

The CILS exams cover a range of levels that correspond to increasing degrees of competence and to different social contexts of language use.  There are six levels which follow the guidelines of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: level A1; level A2; level B1; level B2; level C1; and level C2.

There is also a B1 Citizenship Exam which is a requirement to certify your level of Italian in order to apply for Italian Citizenship, as well as a B1 exam especially for adolescents.
