Course content

Students follow a daily programme of practical tennis coaching sessions in the morning with a professional tennis coach, with classroom-based workshops focused on tennis skills in the afternoon.

The tennis coaching will be in small groups and will focus on: different types of serves and techniques, how to hit the perfect forehand, returning different serves, backhand techniques one and two-handed.

The workshops will be taught by teachers and activity leaders, focused on skills and information for tennis success, such as diet and lifestyle, strategy, target setting and self-motivation.

As part of the course, students will become certified LTA Tennis Leaders, complete with certificate. A tennis leader is someone that is able to support the coach and committee with the day to day running of the tennis venue and tennis programme, and it can help young people get the first step on the career ladder.

At the end of the two-week course players will take part in singles and doubles tournaments to show off the skills they have developed, complete with a trophy ceremony.

This course is ideal for anyone who is a keen tennis player and wants an intensive training course to improve their skills. The course is suitable for both native and non-native English speakers.

Study trips are also a big part of the course, with one full-day and one half-day trip to places of interest in the UK included every week. Example trips include: a full-day trip to Manchester with a walking tour of the city and entry to the famous Old Trafford football stadium, home to Manchester United, and a day trip to Liverpool with a walking tour and ferry ride. Half-day trips include Chester Zoo and Llangollen Railway.

There are on-site evening activities organised by IH staff every night, including fashions shows, discos, film nights, and treasure hunts.
