Online French Level 1 is a Beginners French course for students who have never studied the French language before. 

Lessons take place once a week.

 

Course Content

Communicative aims 

 
  • Introduce yourself and others (name and surname).
  • Ask and answer simple questions.
  • Discuss nationalities and languages.
  • Describe linguistic profiles of classmates.
  • Exchange personal information, such as birthdays, phone numbers, and email addresses
  • Engage in interactions to describe what you like and don’t like
  • Offer and request personal information.
  • Practice introductions in a social context.

  

Linguistic aims 

 
  • Master the present tense of ‘être’ and ‘avoir’.
  • Use indefinite articles, possessive adjectives, and the interrogative adjective ‘quel(le)’.
  • Understand and form negations.
  • Familiarise with personal subject pronouns.
  • Learn greetings and farewells.
  • Number from 0 to 100.
  • Months, family situations, and centres of interest.
  • Casual and formal forms of address.

 

Sociocultural aspects

  •  Discuss the role of names and surnames in French culture.
  • Examine the use of formal and informal language in different settings.
  • Introduction to French theatre with a focus on the play ‘Le Prénom’.

* Coursebooks are to be purchased after the first lesson and are required for the course.  Books will be available to purchase from reception on the day of your second lesson.

 

What do you need for an online class?

 

To get the most from this course you will need:

  • A reliable internet connection
  • A desktop computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone
  • A web camera on or attached to the device you are using
  • An integrated microphone in the device you are using or an attached headset
  • The day before your course, you will be sent via email all the details you need to connect to the IH London Zoom classroom
