Level 1 is a Beginners course for students who have never studied the Croatian/Serbian language before. 

Lessons take place once a week.

Course Content

Communicative aims

• Alphabet, spelling, pronunciation

• Greetings and farewells

• Saying who you are – where are you from, what your name is

• Saying – “this is my partner”, “that is my firend”

• Do you speak Croatian/English?

• Where do you live?

• What do you do for a living?

• Where do you work?

Linguistic aims

• The verb “to be” biti – present tense

• Infinitive of verbs

• Present tense of the most frequently used verbs

• Negative present tense

• Gender of nouns and adjectives

• Demonstrative pronouns ovo, to, ono

• Personal Pronouns – ja, ti, on, ona, ono, mi, vi, oni

• Possessive pronouns – moj, tvoj, naš

• Questions words – tko, što, gdje, kako

• Asking yes/no questions

• Introduction to cases of nouns – nominative & locative

Socio-cultural aspects

• Everyday greetings and polite forms of speech

• Family names in Bosnia/Croatia/Serbia

Based on Complete Croatian Units 1 & 2 and Croatian for Beginners A1, Units 1 & 2
