Lack of languages loses business

An EU ELAN study of over 900,000 SME’s revealed that 11% of those surveyed felt they had lost business through the lack of language knowledge and cultural skills. These involved deals ranging from £1000’s to £1,000,000 in value. The survey also showed that many continental businesses prefer NOT to do business with UK companies simply because they don’t understand our English!

The National Language Strategy (CILT) estimates that better knowledge of languages and cultural skills could improve British GDP by £9 billion a year.
