Taking place right now at Asia House is an incredible photography exhibition called Departures. It contains am impressive collection of photographs of the Islamic world from the mid 19th century onward, covering an immense expanse of the globe from Morocco to China. The photographs showcase the rich cultural heritage of the area and its people, along with their trades, crafts, architecture and dress. Open until the 3rd of May, this is definitely one not to be missed!
Modern Art Oxford is also holding an interesting exhibition at the moment – a collection of works by Lebanese artist Akram Zaatari called The Script. The exhibition is a fascinating display of imagery and visual media connected with the Arab world, which shows how different communities have chosen to portray themselves, from the age of the photographic studio to the YouTube videos seen today. Catch it until the 19th of May.
