Online Academic Management Programmes

International House offers modular academic management training programmes for both newer and experienced academic managers. Each module is offered within specific teaching periods, and participants can select from the modules offered to build their own bespoke programme.

To be awarded the Certificate in Academic Management, you need to select three modules from those offered. To be awarded the Diploma in Academic Management, you need to select four modules from those offered, plus a final, research-based, Extended Assignment module.

You can also take individual modules and build up to a full programme over time. This modular delivery offers participants maximum flexibility, and also allows you to focus on topics of particular interest to you and your organisation.

Which Programme is right for me?

 

The Certificate in Academic Management is the programme for you if:

  • You are a newer manager with less than 5 years’ management experience
  • You want to discuss issues and solutions with other managers and with a course tutor, networking within a global community.
  • You want a programme that gives you a range of practical ideas as well as a theoretical grounding in the topics
  • You want to develop and broaden your knowledge in asmall numberof specific areas

The Diploma in Academic Management is the programme for you if:

  • You are a more experienced manager with more than 5 years’ experience
  • You want to discuss issues and solutions with other managers and with a course tutor, networking within a global community.
  • You want a programme that gives you a range of practical ideas as well as a theoretical grounding in the topics
  • You want to explore some of the more strategic issues related to academic management
  • You wish to undertake a final context based research project.

Practical Information

a)      To gain the Certificate in Academic Management you must complete three modules from those offered.

b)      To gain the Diploma in Academic Management you must complete four modules from those offered, plus a final research-based Extended Assignment module. [Five modules in total]

c)      A self-study online Orientation Module is provided prior to the start of your first module. This Orientation Module lasts 3 -4 hours and has required tasks.

d)      Each module lasts 6 weeks. A weekly workload of 4 – 6 hours per week is standard.

e)      Modules are supervised actively by an experienced online tutor. You are required to work through each unit with your study group, and complete all tasks within the relevant week. Units are released by your tutor on a weekly basis.

f)       Assessment is by:

                                          i.            maintaining an active participation rate of 80% over the duration of the module

                                          ii.            submission of a 2,500 word assignment two weeks after the end of each module [3,500 word assignment for the final Diploma Extended Assignment module] See the Criteria for Assessment of Written Work document for more information on assignment assessment.
