What Is the Cert IBET Course Really Like?

March 9, 2021April 21, 2022

by IH London

Are you a Business English teacher looking to hone your skills and develop your career? Then, the Cert IBET qualification could help you do just that! Find out more about the course from our recent graduate Ozlem.

Tell us a bit about the course. What is it and who is it for?

Taking the ‘Certificate in International Business English Training (Cert IBET)’ course at International House London with Nick Hamilton and Helen Gray was a tremendous experience. In general, the course is designed for teachers and trainers who are interested in teaching Business English in a variety of contexts and is suitable for teachers with varying levels of experience. Upon completion of the course, participants have to complete a post-course assignment to gain a recognised English UK Cert IBET qualification.

What made you want to take the course?

I took the course to learn about current developments in Business English, and to expand my knowledge and skills in teaching senior level business clients. I also wanted to add this qualification to my credentials to help further my career.

How is the course structured? Tell us about the schedule and assessments.

The core syllabus looked at the main principles of Business English as well as understanding the current trends. During the course we learned how to approach needs analysis, the general principles of syllabus design and how to assess learners effectively. The programme explored different approaches to improving the four skills (speaking, reading, writing and listening), enriching their vocabulary and grammar range and increasing their confidence.

How have you benefited from the course do you think?

The course has definitely enhanced my Business English teaching skills and assessment techniques. I believe the quality of my lessons has improved and I know how to better use resources to make each session unique to client needs, which in turn helps them become more successful in their field.

What are your plans now that you have finished the course?

To continue teaching Business English – I would say that having completed the Cert IBET at IH London, I am well on the way to becoming an expert in this area.

Would you recommend the course?

I strongly recommend this course to anyone who is interested in teaching Business English. The Cert IBET course will open doors to the Business English training world and will equip you with all the skills and confidence you need.
