Five things to do in and around Tufnell Park

May 10, 2023May 22, 2023

by Ingrid Wilson

Tufnell Park is a perfectly situated area of London sandwiched in between the beautiful, leafy Hampstead, with its heath and cafe culture, and the edgier and more lively Camden and Kentish Town.  Here are some top tips for places to visit and cultural activities to experience so you can enjoy all this area has to offer.

Hampstead Heath

This is North London’s iconic green space, full of things to do and offers spectacular views over the capital. It’s a beautiful place to come for a stroll or a picnic or if you fancy a bit of natural swimming, Hampstead Heath is home to some of the best outdoor swimming spots in London including three natural bathing ponds. If you fancy something a bit less wild, there’s always Parliament Hill Lido, a grade-II listed art deco outdoor pool with stainless steel beneath the water and concrete sides for lounging in the sun.

Highgate Cemetery

This is one of London’s best-known cemeteries in a beautiful setting and makes for one of London’s more unusual and interesting days out. The cemetery is the final resting place of many notable writers, musicians and philosophers including Karl Marx, George Michael, Malcolm Mclaren and Douglas Adams.

It has incredible architecture, mausoleums, and individual graves in an eerie Gothic setting. There are two sides to the cemetery – East and West side and it is definitely worth splashing out on a guided tour to enrich your experience.

Camden Market

Camden Market is a unique and lively destination in London, offering something for everyone. This bustling marketplace has been a hub of culture, food, and entertainment for over 40 years, drawing locals and tourists alike to its unique offerings.

One of the highlights of Camden Market is the food and drink scene. You can find cuisine from all over the world, from traditional British fish and chips to Indian street food and Mexican tacos. There are also plenty of vegan and vegetarian options, making it a great spot for plant-based eaters.

If you are looking to shop then there are a variety of goods on offer. Many of the stalls are run by local artisans and designers, giving you a chance to discover unique items from vintage clothing and antiques to handmade crafts at generally affordable prices. There are also plenty of street performers and musicians adding to the lively atmosphere.

Music Venues

Tufnell Park and its surrounding area are home to some of North London’s most legendary music venues. The Dome is above a friendly and chilled-out pub and offers a diverse range of live music from indie to rap, and from hard rock to folk.

Whilst over in neighbouring Kentish Town and Camden the O2 Forum and the aptly named Roundhouse play host to a variety of live music, circus and alternative theatre acts. The Roundhouse also offers amazing workshops and courses in music, media, performing arts, professional development and more.

Whiskers & Cream Cat Cafe

If you’re looking for something quirky to do Whiskers and Cream is one of London’s most stylish Cat Cafes. Here you can enjoy delicious cakes, pastries and bespoke afternoon teas all in the company of beautiful resident cats. Pet and play with the cafe’s furry residents as you relax in this elegant and stylish venue.
