Paris 2024 has kicked off in true style, and we wouldn’t expect anything less from the French capital. The exciting international atmosphere is one of the things we love the most about the event, seeing athletes from around the world come together to compete – athletes from different backgrounds and cultures, and who speak a vast array of different languages. With this in mind, the Games are a great opportunity to enhance our language skills. With so many media crews from across the globe covering the games, there is ample Foreign Language content available. Here are a few suggestions…
French
Of course, we have to start with the host nation! France will have plenty to report on in the coming weeks, with their eyes on their many medal hopefuls. Eurosport.fr has endless French language coverage and France 24 offers plenty of reading materials – perfect for learning new words and seeing grammar in context.
Greek
A big shout-out to Greece too, as the home and founding nation of this epic event. Greek TV channel Sport24 has lots of great articles and videos about the Olympics which will give your comprehension skills a boost!
Spanish
With so many Spanish-speaking countries in the world, there is a wealth of content out there! We’ve focused in on two however. RTVE Deportes is the national sports news channel in Spain which has regular updates and will have back-to-back coverage during the event. Marca Claro is a big sports news brand in Latin America, and its YouTube channel is a great hub of fun Paris 2024 updates – ample opportunity to practise your listening skills!
Arabic
For sports reports in the Arabic language, look now further than the Bein Sports website, which is a media partner of several Arabic-speaking countries during the Olympics.
Portuguese
If you’re a Portuguese language student then be sure to check our the Bandsports website from Brazil. The website has lots of interesting articles and videos which are sure to give your vocab a lift!
German
For all the latest from Germany, check out the Sportschau website, which already has lots of interesting videos and articles available, and will be a great source of materials during the course of the Games.
Italian
RAI Sport is an important sports channel in Italy anytime of year, but even more so this summer! Check out the website where you’ll find lots of Paris 2024 articles which are great for enhancing your reading skills.
Japanese
Upper-Intermediate students should check out NHK‘s stream of articles covering all the latest on Japan’s performance at the games. The reading material is challenging and will certainly make you focus on your Kanji, but worth a look if you’re keen to improve.
Good luck to all the incredible athletes competing at Paris 2024! And good luck to all Foreign Languages students using this opportunity to boost their language skills over the coming weeks!
