About The Course
The Low Cost English Lessons are taught by trainee teachers who are learning to teach and have not yet qualified. The 2-6 week course is ideal for A2 Elementary – B2+ Pre-Advanced students who want affordable evening or afternoon lessons to improve their English. These affordable, beginner-friendly English group courses are taught at our school in Central London from only £35 with options to study for free if you qualify.

Afternoon Timetable
- Monday-Friday (13:30 -15:30)*
Evening Timetable:
- Mondays & Wednesdays (18:30-20:30)*
- Tuesdays & Thursdays (18.30 -20.30)
Course Length

*If there is a bank holiday in your booking, your class will be on the Friday and not the Monday.

Who can join low cost classes?
Any adult learners (16+) at A2–B2+ level can join.
How much does the course cost?
The standard fee is from £35, but varies depending on the number of lessons and course length. You can join for free if you are; a refugee, asylum seeker, receiving unemployment benefits or over 65 years old.
When are the lessons?
There are daytime or evening lessons depending on the course:
- Monday-Friday (13:30 -15:30)*
- Mondays & Wednesdays (18:30-20:30)*
- Tuesdays & Thursdays (18.30 -20.30)
*If there is a bank holiday in your booking, your class will be on the Friday and not the Monday.
What do I need to bring to class?
You will need a pen and a notebook if you have one.
Which classroom do I go to?
You will get an email the day before your course starts with details of your classroom and teacher.
Do you have Wifi at the school?
Yes! Here are the details:

Who teaches the course?
The lessons are taught by trainee teachers. The trainee teachers are not professional teachers. They are learning to teach and have not qualified yet. They are supervised by an experienced teacher trainer. There are usually 5 trainee teachers in each class.
How big are the classes?
There is a maximum of 14 students in both face-to-face classes and online classes. Class sizes vary depending on the level.
Where are the lessons?
There are online lessons with trainee teachers on Zoom and face-to-face lessons at our school in Covent Garden in London.
Can I move between online and face-to-face?
Yes, you can move between courses depending on availability. Please contact english.lessons@ihlondon.com.
I want to book a course. What do I do?
Before you can book a course, you need to take a test at https://testmylevel.com/ and send your result to english.lessons@ihlondon.com.
Is there a speaking test?
Yes, once you have your test result, we will invite you to a short speaking test over Zoom. After that, we will recommend a course, and you can book it on this webpage.
I’m a refugee – can I book my course on the website?
No, those eligible for free lessons (such as refugees and asylum seekers) will need to take the level test and send the result to english.lessons@ihlondon.com. Please also send a copy of your ARC card (both sides).
If the course is full, is there a waiting list?
Yes, there is a waiting list for all courses which are full. Please email english.lessons@ihlondon.com if you want to join the waiting list or complete the form at the bottom of this page.
What if I want to cancel my course? Can I get a refund?
The courses are non-refundable. If you cannot attend your lessons, you may be given a credit for a future course.
Do I need to go to every lesson?
You must attend 80% of the lessons. If you attend fewer than 80% of the lessons on the course, we may refuse your request for any future courses. If you miss three consecutive lessons, you may be removed from the course and your place may be given to another student. You will not receive a refund.
What happens if I am sick or cannot go to class?
You must send an email to english.lessons@ihlondon.com if you can’t attend a lesson. You must do this for every lesson you miss.
