Dutch Level 1 is for students who have never studied the Dutch language before.
Our Dutch language classes take place at our school in Covent Garden with a qualified, experienced teacher and fellow students. Evening language classes at IH London are dynamic and interactive as the emphasis is on spoken communication, which is achieved through lots of group work and role-plays. At the same time, there is systematic work on grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation, so that you can improve on all aspects of the language. Your teacher speaks in the target language throughout, so that you can refine your comprehension and listening skills.
Course Content
Communicative aims
· Introduce yourself and others (name and surname).
· Ask and answer simple questions.
· Describe linguistic profiles of classmates.
· Exchange personal information, such as phone numbers, and email addresses
· Engage in interactions to describe what you like and don’t like
· Request and answer personal information.
· Practise introductions in a social context
Linguistic aims
· Master the present and past tenses of ‘hebben’ , ‘zijn’ and ‘houden van’
· Use of questions words in sentences
· Sentence structure, basic and question forms.
· Familiarise with personal subject pronouns and possessive pronouns
· Learn greetings and farewells.
· Number from 0 to 100
· Familiarisation with the double vowel sounds
· Time indication, family situations, hobbies and centres of interest.
· Casual and formal forms of address.
Sociocultural aspects
· Introduction to Dutch traditions such as Koningsdag
· Familiarisation with Dutch cities, provinces and foods.
