Online Polish Level 1 is a Beginners Polish course for students who have never studied the Polish language before.

Our Online Polish language classes take place over Zoom with a qualified, experienced teacher and fellow students. Evening language classes at IH London are dynamic and interactive as the emphasis is on spoken communication, which is achieved through lots of group work and role-plays. At the same time, there is systematic work on grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation, so that you can improve on all aspects of the language. Your teacher speaks in the target language throughout, so that you can refine your comprehension and listening skills. 

Course Content

Communication aims

• Learn how to introduce yourself and ask basic questions in Polish.
• Ask for and give personal information (name, nationality, profession).
• Talk about where you live and your daily activities.
• Practice common greetings and expressions of courtesy.
• Buy items in everyday settings (e.g., kiosk).

Linguistic aims

• Pronouns & Verb Forms
• Personal pronouns: Ja, ty, on, ona, ono, my, wy, oni, one
• Verb conjugation in the present tense: “nazywać się”, “robić”, “pracować”
• Basic Sentence Structure
• Building simple sentences (affirmative and negative).
• Yes/no questions and open-ended questions with “czy”, “co”, “kto”, “jaki”, “jak”, “ile”
• Vocabulary & Grammar
• Nationalities and professions.
• Numbers 1–100.
• Places of residence: city, borough (e.g., “Mieszkam w Londynie… lat”).
• Basic adjectives (e.g., tall, short, friendly) and their use with nouns.
• Gender of nouns (masculine, feminine, neuter)
• Possessive pronouns in nominative: mój, twoj, jego, jej, nasz, wasz.
• Communication Skills
• Asking and answering questions about where you live and work.
• Introducing yourself and others.
• Talking about your family.
• Using polite forms of speech (formal/informal).
• Pronunciation & Intonation
• Focus on Polish alphabet and pronunciation of challenging sounds.
• Intonation patterns in questions and statements.

Socio-cultural aspects

• Understanding formal and informal greetings in Poland.
• Polite phrases and addressing others (formal vs. informal “you” – “pan/pani” vs. “ty”).
• Introduction to Polish everyday life and customs, such as common expressions used in shops, cafes, and public spaces.
