About British Sign Language
British Sign Language is a visual means of communicating using gestures, facial expressions and body language. It is a language with its own vocabulary, grammar and syntax. It is not dependent upon or related to English and is used mainly by people who are Deaf or to support those who have hearing difficulties. British Sign Language is a real, full and living language that is part of a rich cultural heritage and one of the UK’s indigenous languages.
By studying the Level 1 qualification in British Sign Language with IH London and Signature (the leading awarding body of BSL courses in the UK), you will learn many skills and develop a completely new way of communicating. Using a practical approach, you will gain an insight into the grammar of BSL, a knowledge of signs relating to everyday life and the ability to finger spell.
