About the IH Trust

International House opened its doors in 1953 when John and Brita Haycraft established a language school in Cordoba. In 1964 they set up a non-profit-making educational trust committed to raising the standards of English language teaching and training worldwide.

Today International House Trust is a registered charity and it fulfils its mission by running its directly owned flagship London school. Further details are shown in our Annual Trustees' Report (673 KB).

We further promote our charitable objectives by engaging in initiatives in cooperation with International House World Organisation (IHWO) and with its affiliates and we work with IHWO in protecting the International House brand worldwide. Further detail about IHWO is provided on their website: www.ihworld.com .

In 2010, 57 years after its foundation, the IHWO network is made up of over 140 affiliated schools in more than 40 countries, stretching from Western Europe to Asia and the Americas.

The link between IH schools is essentially an educational one, with each affiliate school guaranteeing to maintain educational standards and conditions of employment for teachers in accordance with the IH Affiliation Agreement.

IHWO, based in London, is a separate company providing a range of services to extend and support the worldwide network of IH schools. Services include teacher recruitment, teacher training, academic development and the interchange of ideas.

IH School Locations

International House aims to generate the goodwill that comes from many nationalities trying to understand one another in many different countries and situations. IHWO publishes a directory of all IH schools worldwide .
