For even more fun, head to the famous Speaker’s Corner on a Sunday morning to watch or even participate in debates or public speeches. There are also various events taking place in Hyde Park every season that you can check here. Located in Westminster, it is easily accessible from every part of London.
St James Park
What about having a picnic admiring swans and even pelicans? Grab your lunch at the St James Café and enjoy the sunshine in one of the liveliest parks of London! Check out the signs and try to name all the birds that you can spot. Located close to Buckingham Palace and the Horse Guards Parade, St James Park makes a perfect picnic stop for your next day out in Central London.
Richmond Park
Richmond Park is the biggest one among London’s Royal Parks. It is a national nature reserve covering 2,500 acres of green land. Richmond Park has stunning views and is also known as a deer park. Check out the Isabella Plantation for evergreen Japanese azaleas, the Beverley Brook area and the lakes. Richmond is known not only for its nature, but also the architecture. You can visit the Pembroke Lodge, a Georgian mansion with a charming tea room. You can turn your picnic into a whole day outdoors by exploring the Richmond area by visiting the Richmond Theatre or even Kew Gardens.
Greenwich Park
If you want to have a picnic in one of the most peaceful areas of London – Greenwich Park is for you! Stop off this park for magical views of the river Thames and Canary Wharf. Do not be fooled by the quiet nature of the area – there are multiple cafes and shops where you can grab lunch or snacks for your picnic. Check out the Royal Observatory where you can see the markings of the Prime Meridian Line. This line is also known as Longitude Zero and every place on Earth is measured in terms of its angle east or west from this line. Greenwich is also famous for being a film location. Can you spot the places that made it to the Marvel films, Pirates of the Caribbean and Lara Croft?
Hampstead Heath
Hampstead Heath, also sometimes called just Heath, makes a perfect picnic spot for active people who like to walk, because it is one of the highest points in London. The heath is hilly and full of ancient woodlands, ponds and playgrounds. Grab your picnic essentials and walk up the Parliament Hill, where you can enjoy the breath-taking views over London that are even protected by law. Hampstead Heath is also home to many sports activities including the weekly parkrun and even the annual Race for Life in aid for Cancer Research UK. If you are not interested in running and other sports, you can always enjoy the sun on the hills and admire London from a bird’s eye view.
