Online CELTA
You can study online and have the IH London training experience from the comfort of your home.
CELTA is a structured and practical introduction to teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL). The online course has the same syllabus as the face-to-face CELTA and you will learn techniques relevant to both online and face-to-face teaching.
IH London pioneered online training and co-developed the Online CELTA course with Cambridge.
For the online course, you will complete your teaching practice with language students, online via Zoom and plan your lessons for this mode of study. Your tutors will also deliver sessions on face-to-face teaching so you will be prepared for either mode after the course. You can also access and observe lessons of both online and face-to-face teaching.
Much of the course content and methodology is presented through an online self-study course, designed with tasks and film clips you can access at any time. There is a weekly schedule of topics and the online study modules can be completed asynchronously to suit your schedule. You will receive continued support from your tutor online via forums. There are also live synchronous sessions with the tutor where your progress will be monitored.
You need to be confident with technology as you will be studying online, using different Apps and will be teaching on Zoom. You need to be comfortable with this mode before the course.
Nowadays, most teachers need to prepare materials for their lessons using online tools and present well designed worksheets. The skills you may already have are really useful for preparing lessons. These are the things a teacher regularly needs to do, including making Powerpoint presentations, organising documents and PDFs on a computer, and being proficient in Microsoft Word.

What does the application process involve?
CELTA application journey
To apply for the CELTA, you need to complete both a written application and an interview. In our CELTA application timeline we’ve set out what’s involved in the process and our tips for success.
View the application journey**For clarity, the cost of a CELTA course is broken down into two parts. The CELTA course fee (£1,684) is the fee for taking the course at IH London, inclusive of all materials and tuition. The Cambridge fee (£170) goes towards the qualification body, Cambridge. Both fees are payable to IH London. Remember, if you book your course within 10 days of receiving a course offer, we will pay the £170 Cambridge fee for you.
