Who is this course for?
The Cert IBET Online, Certificate in International Business Training Online, was developed to enhance the expertise and skills of business English trainers, increasing employability and prospects in a competitive sector. The qualification will help you to demonstrate professionalism in designing courses and teaching English to clients with specialised business needs.
The course aims to assist language teachers of general English to acquire a good working range of knowledge and practical skills necessary for the effective planning and teaching of ‘English for Business’. Please note, the Cert IBET does not teach Business as a subject.
This qualification is jointly validated and managed by English UK and LanguageCert.

Entry Requirements
Applicants must have an initial teaching qualification such as CELTA, Trinity College London Certificate in TESOL or a recognised qualification in your country.
Applicants must demonstrate a minimum level of English equivalent to IELTS 7.0, TOEFL 627 or CEFR C1.
It is also useful to have some relevant experience or particular interest in working within a business context and some familiarity with common business terminology. ELT/TESOL teaching experience will help with the assignment.

Course Modules
There are 50 hours of study covering 11 core modules:
-Definitions of business English
-Concepts and language in a business context
-Needs analysis and research
-Course and syllabus design
-Materials and resources
-Approaches and methods
-Internationalism: ELF, cross-cultural awareness in business
-Teaching oral business communication skills: meetings, negotiations, telephoning and presentations
-Teaching business writing: correspondence and reports
-Evaluation and assessment: evaluating programme aims; teaching for business English exams
-Professional development and employment
Course Assessment
Participants must attend and take part in all components of the course. For full certification, candidates submit a written assignment following a set task. (3000 – 4000 words). Candidates must choose only one of four assignment titles and cannot alter the rubrics.
The assignment will be submitted within twelve weeks of the end of the course, marked by IH London and then moderated by LanguageCert/ ENGLISH UK.
Course Delivery
Cert IBET Online offers seminars, workshops and discussions. These sessions will sometimes involve participants giving presentations. In addition to timetabled activities, course participants will spend time on the following:
-Homework tasks – these will usually be related to topics discussed during the input sessions and course participants should expect to complete some reading during the course or to review sessions.
-Self-study sessions – these will normally include observation (on video) of business English classes.
Cert IBET Online is part-time with live sessions delivered on Zoom twice a week over 10 weeks. Classes take place from 09.00 to 11.30 on Wednesday and Friday.
We offer two modes of study during the year; face–to-face at IH London and online synchronous via Zoom.
